IUCN Expert Jay Wu | Herping & Birding Tour Guide
Jay Wu is a senior engineer and IUCN Species Survival Commission expert with deep expertise in reptiles and amphibians. He has co-described 12 new species — mostly amphibians, reptiles, and invertebrates — and published 20 academic papers, and received the UNDP Equator Prize and China’s National Bird Conservation Individual Award.
Jay has been leading field trips since 2008, starting as a field assistant for his PhD supervisor while still a university student. He has since directed wildlife films including "Four Girls Mountain" and "Tangjiahe: Refuge of the Eurasian Otter," and authored or co-authored books including "A Field Guide to the Birds of China (Corvidae)" and "Wild Bird Comic Guide."
Jay also planned the Chengdu Yunqiao Wetland, one of China's OECM case studies, and led the design of the Yunqiao Community Ecology Museum. With Jay, you'll explore China's wildlife through the eyes of someone who has named new species, built conservation projects on the ground, and told their stories on film.
